Bolshoi Drama Theater named after Tovstonogov (BDT) conducted an online broadcast of the play “The Cherry Orchard“based on the work of the same name Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. However, there was one important nuance: the action of the play took place on stage in the game Minecraft.
The performance was directed by Edgar Zakaryanwho prepared an abridged version of the “Cherry Orchard” lasting 15 minutes. Moreover, in the game under the guidance of an architect Andrei Voronov built from the cubes a copy of the BDT, including the scene. One could walk around the building calmly.
The decision to use Minecraft as a decoration is due to the fact that quarantine restrictions related to the pandemic are still in effect. The theater, on the other hand, decided to attract attention, further interest the young audience.
