Alliance for Connectivity Standards, which includes Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung, Huawei and dozens of other electronics companies, postponed the launch Matter until next year. Initially, the standard was planned to be implemented in the second half of 2023.
Recall that in May, the organization decided to rename the standard for connecting to networks of smart home systems Project Connected Home over IP (Project CHIP) in Matter.
Work on Project CHIP has been going on since 2019. The alliance has long set out to create an open standard that will unite disparate devices into a common ecosystem, thereby making it easier to integrate and interoperate with smart home systems.
According to the idea, the user of any device with Matter support will be able to easily connect it to an existing home network and control it using a voice assistant. To do this, the organization promises to implement support for Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri, as well as Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Thread and Bluetooth LE protocols.
The Alliance says that the list of Matter features has already been approved. Additional time will be required for developers to complete the SDK and collect certification applications.
