Amazon game studios takes the fight against so-called “toxicity” in games to a new level of absurdity. It’s about an MMO sandbox New world, a release to be held in 2023 on PC.
In one of their blogs, developers talked about PvP. It turned out that during the alpha test, the battles between the players were very popular. However, Amazon decided to declare war on the gankers, who allegedly create a “toxic atmosphere.” Therefore, the possibility of killing players will be greatly curtailed.
“No killing of players, this is predatory behavior that relies on the use of insufficient experience, progress, willingness or desire of another gamer,” – stated in a statement.
PvP will be limited to conflicts between factions, as well as wars over territories in a format of 50 to 50 characters. Battles will take place in limited territories and with a time limit, so outsiders will not suffer. Amazon also does not want to create separate PvP servers, as this supposedly will divide the community.
At the same time, it seems that the developers are trying to invent a bicycle from scratch under the banner of “fight against toxicity.” Such actions do not make much sense, given that everyone came up with them in other MMOs: separate modes, arenas, dedicated territories, servers, phasing, game settings, and so on.
What is characteristic, gamers of Amazon’s undertakings did not appreciate throwing thematic video blog with dislikes and negative comments. The fact is that the head of the studio Patrick Gilmore In due time declared that New World is ground under PvP which was planned to be balanced by means of safe zones and justice system.
It is not surprising that gamers feel betrayed, given that interest in MMOs is already quite low, this could be a serious blow to the project and a complete PR failure.
