Activision Blizzard fired about 50 employees involved in esports

Editions Bloomberg and Sports Business Journal reported that the next layoffs in Activision Blizzard affected dozens of employees, including about 50 esports people.

A company spokesman said the decision was made in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. As players spend more and more time online, the esports team, like the traditional sports, entertainment and broadcast industries, has had to adapt its business.

However, the company noted that live events are still a very important part of the Overwatch League and Call of Duty League strategies. The company plans to return to them as soon as it is safe and logistically possible.

As Bloomberg notes, laid-off U.S. employees will receive a minimum of 90-day severance pay, medical benefits for a year, job transition support, and $ 200 Battle.net gift cards.
