We bought and tested the cheapest gaming mouse. We share our impressions.
Today we have an unusual test: we bought the cheapest mouse with the word Gaming in the name. We did not do any analysis or selection – we opened the site of the nearest store (nix.ru), filtered it by price, wrote down the article and moved to buy. Returned home with Defender HIT MB-550 for 150 rubles (120 at the time of purchase) and three packs of “Doshirak”. Now we’ll tell you which is better.
Appearance
Surprisingly, at such a price, the mouse is sold not in a bag of bread, but in a normal blister with a colored backing inside, on which it is written that we bought not a simple mouse, but Gaming – with a “grooved scroll wheel” and already seven backlight colors. Actually, this cardboard box is almost complete. Inside, there is still only an instruction in which it is written which side to stick the wire on.
Opening the blister, we were sure that the stench of plastic would knock us off our feet. Fortunately, this was not the case. It smells, of course, decently – a vigorous mixture of burnt plastic and some kind of paint – but in order to smell the aroma, you literally have to poke your nose into the body. From a distance of ten centimeters, everything seems to be normal.
At the same time, outwardly, the MB-550 does not cause any suspicion: it looks decent even next to ASUSwhich is 86 times more expensive. Here are all the cutouts for a gaming mouse, and long clicks built into the case, and that same grooved scroll wheel. And no weird, cheap sagging, burrs, or crooked details. Only the cable looks bad: thin, somehow all crooked and oblique. However, we have met such cables on Logitech for 1500-2000 rubles – it’s okay. At first, some suspicions are raised by the backlighting: it is uneven, it changes colors at will, but overall it looks pretty decent.
Illusions dissipate when you take the MB-550 in hand: here 150 rubles are already fully felt. Plastic to the touch is like a cheap Chinese toy: it is both hard, and too smooth, and some kind of empty. Plus, problems with grinding parts come out. The back part, on which the base of the palm rests, is so sharp that you involuntarily try to change position and take the body slightly forward. The solution with the legs on the bottom was also amusing: they seem to be in place, but this is not Teflon, but squeezed out plastic.
Device
Mechanics also delivers – with this mouse we now have a new example of what is called “loud clicks”. We have not seen such a bright sound from a key press for a long time. There are some misunderstandings here with the wheel: it seems to work fine, and at a speed it is completely in order, but on the fingers it feels like the wheel inside is scraping against some kind of sandpaper. In addition, the scroll is set so deep that when scrolling, the finger slips over the clicks, and this feeling, frankly, is not a pleasant one.
And the final touch is the sensor. It’s hard to say what kind of beast is there, but it works at a fixed 1200 dpi, and it is simply unrealistic to break it. The sensor begins to get lost even at ultra-low speeds, and at any hint of acceleration it generally ceases to adequately perceive information.
Here it is tempting to write something like: “For 150 rubles, all these are trifles, the main thing is that the mouse works,” but no. More precisely, it works to work, but the possibilities are only enough for some basic things. It is really possible to click on shortcuts in Windows, to poke into browser links, and in this the MB-550 is no different from other mice. However, when it comes to some precise action, the mouse makes you nervous. Even the trivial volume change on YouTube is difficult. At low speed, the sensor does not work, and during acceleration it cannot be stopped in the right place.
The games are even more fun. In general, everything seems to be fine: in Disco Elysium characters run, in War thunder the planes follow the movements of the mouse, and in Total war you can easily hit the squad icons. Problems, again, begin when it comes to precise actions. The sensor here is so peculiar that it is impossible to predict the movement of the cursor, and therefore you either miss the menu items, then you do not bring the cursor to the right place and then painfully get the required distance. In general, the pleasure is extremely dubious.
However, the HIT MB-550 cannot be called completely useless. She left us with the impression of a normal device “for every fireman.” It is not at all a pity to buy it on a trip, it is normally suitable for a home server, but you can simply throw it into the closet as a reserve in case of a breakdown of the main rodent. As for the rest, we do not recommend buying it: you will get much more positive emotions from Doshirak.
In the near future, we’ll see what mice are capable of for 400–500 rubles.
