In 2012 Google presented a special version of their maps for the console Nintendo Entertainment System… As an April Fool’s joke, the company launched the service on the main site, and almost ten years later, the enthusiast brought it to life.
The developer under the nickname ciciplusplus posted a video on YouTube showing a working prototype of 8-bit Google Maps. The craftsman used a modified cartridge and a Raspberry Pi-based system to launch, and specialized software to convert maps to pixel tiles.
