On Disney + a special episode of the program about the creation of “The Mandalorian”, where all the time was devoted to the finale of the second season.
The authors confirmed that the team and many of the actors were unaware of the return. Luke Skywalker in the final episode, but instead believed that Grogu will save the Jedi Plo Koon from the prequels. For this, special arts were even created to keep everything secret.
In fact, Plo Koon was one of the victims of Order 66, given by Palpatine in Revenge of the Sith – the Jedi died at the hands of the clones, who turned against him.
One of the authors of the deception was Dave Filoni, who specifically stated in thematic interviews about his love for the lesser-known heroes of the universe.
The very scene of the arrival of the Jedi was filmed by the smallest team, and before that the authors tried to avoid any mention of Luke Skywalker. To call Hamill back to the set Jon Favreau and director Peyton Reed took the model Grogu and went with her to the actor’s house.
When Hamill heard the idea of the creators, he simply could not refuse them. He himself believed that the original trilogy ended at the moment when Luke was at his peak – as James Bond after obtaining a license to kill.
To rejuvenate the actor, they used at the same time special technology and deep fake tools, as well as another young artist in some shots. The voice was processed using a computer simulation that studied Hamill’s phrases in various scenes and interviews.
In addition, for the first time in the series, the original music was used in the scene of Luke’s appearance. John Williams… Jon Favreau himself, seeing in the episode R2D2, shed a tear, and Peyton Reed noted that the audience of films had never seen Skywalker fighting in full force before.
