On the night of August 18, patch 7.30 was released in Dota 2. The update turned out to be not as large-scale as many gamers would like. The overwhelming majority of characters received minor buffs or weaknesses, so there is no need to talk about a complete meta change yet. Still, as before, you can safely destroy opponents on Luna, taking her to the first pick. However, certain new trends are still emerging. If you want to step away from the familiar pool that got bored with 7.29 and try something new, here are five promising characters that can unfold in the current meta.

The really popular heroes 7.29 have not disappeared, except perhaps Broodmother, who has slipped to the very bottom of the winrate table due to a massive rework of abilities. Luna, Winter Wyvern, Ancient Apparition and Ax are still in demand and have a high win rate. Therefore, we will not mention them in our material, you already know perfectly well how strong and effective these heroes are. In addition, we will not consider such heroes as Chen or Visage – they received pleasant buffs, and the first one will certainly be a frequent guest on the professional stage, but both characters are still not very popular in the community due to the need to control additional units. Therefore, if you have not played Chen or Visage before, you are unlikely to start now.

Slark

At the moment, by far the best hero of the 7.30 patch. Until recently, Slark was not listed as a carry at all, but now it is the hero with the highest pick rate for professionals and with the highest win rate for regular users.

Slark

The developers reduced the damage from Dark Pact to Slark itself by 20% at once and reduced the cooldown of the ultimate at all three levels of pumping. The bonuses are nice, but still not so significant to break into the top. What’s the secret? Slark’s success can be attributed to a combination of factors. Firstly, Broodmother dropped out of the meta, whose winrate dropped by almost 15% in a day, and it was she who could destroy Slark on the lane. At the same time, the effectiveness and popularity of Timbersaw, who was also an unpleasant meta offlaner in the last patch, has decreased.

Secondly, Valve has enhanced two items that look good on Slark at once – Mage Slayer and Silver Edge. The first artifact gives the necessary bonus to magic resistance and solves the problem with a lack of mana, and the second … well, you know yourself, Slark and invisibility are just made for each other, especially when it comes to matchmaking at the level of 3-4 thousand MMR. Silver Edge now not only provides mobility, but also significantly increases the potential for killing supports in the early stages thanks to critical hits.

Third, don’t forget about the changed talents. Slark got two nice bonuses to Dark Pact, which is effective both early on for farming and late for permanently removing debuffs. Well, and most importantly, at level 20, the hero has the opportunity to earn +1 to stealing agility for the Essence Shift effect. This makes it easier to pick up pace in a fight, even if you had almost no passive stacks before the fight. As a result, Slark found himself in perfect conditions to climb the 7.30 throne – at least at first.

Gyrocopter

After the release of patch 7.30, Gyrocopter burst into third place in the list of the most popular heroes on high-MMR (from 7 thousand), but the overall character’s winrate decreased by 5%. Regardless, Gyrocopter entered our material. Yes, the developers reduced his agility gain and gave him another useless Aghanim’s Shard. However, Gyrocopter’s strength in the current meta is that of Flak Cannon. If you remember, a couple of years ago the character was the most popular on the professional scene and in matchmaking precisely because of the large number of charges of this ability. There were enough of them to take away ancient creeps even without a million artifacts and properly shoot opponents in a fight. After that, the skill was nerfed, just by removing the number of volleys.

Gyrocopter

Now Gyrocopter has three talents at once that enhance Flak Cannon: at the tenth level, you can increase the radius of the ability by +300 (this compensates for the initial nerf by -250), at the 15th we get the coveted two additional volleys, and at the 25th – a decrease in cooldown for 6 seconds. As a result, in the middle of the game, the hero’s potential for farming noticeably increases, especially the stacks of ancient creeps, and in the late game, the character, in fact, permanently shoots at all enemies at once, because with the talent at level 25, the reload time is only 12 seconds. If by this moment you already have the conditional Butterfly and Daedalus, then the enemy supports literally cannot even get close to you, because they will not survive such a bombardment.

The only problem is that Gyrocopter is not so confident against Sven, Faceless Void and Lycan, who climbed quite well at 7.30. The first two heroes simply interrupt Gyrocopter, and the third can crush our character with aggression and pace before we collect the necessary items.

Dawnbreaker

The hero was never added to Captains Mode, but they gave him bonuses from Aghanim’s Shard and Aghanim’s Scepter. Now the character has become more flexible and variable in terms of roles in the game. Dawnbreaker was previously taken to different positions, and despite the fact that the hero is formally considered an offlane, he has proven himself well as a support. Thanks to Aghanim’s Scepter, being a Dawnbreaker Quartet has become much easier and more efficient.

Dawnbreaker

The artifact buff reduces the time it takes to apply the ultimate to 1 second and increases the flight time to 3.5 seconds. At the same time, Aghanim’s Scepter increases heal per pulse from 45/70/95 to 60/90/120 and gives + 60% evasion to all allies in the area of effect. In addition, Dawnbreaker can now determine when to land on her own: if you need to stun an opponent as quickly as possible, then press the ultimate again and fly into the fight, and if you need to heal teammates, we wait until the end.

Dawnbreaker in many ways began to take on the role of support, because the hero with the purchased Holy Locket was able to heal about 700 HP to several allies at once. Now this figure has become quite incredible. For five seconds in the air, a Dawnbreaker with a Holy Locket restores 1,782 health to each teammate. And with the dodge bonus, allies become literally invulnerable against enemy cores without the Monkey King Bar.

Dawnbreaker Ultimate with Aghanim’s Scepter and Holy Locket

Aghanim’s Shard became a nice bonus for both the troika and the support. The artifact grants immunity to magic during the casting of the first spell. This allows, for example, not to force the purchase of BKB on the offlane, but to take first transitional aggressive slots like Magic Slayer or Echo Saber, which synergize well with Starbreaker. Thanks to this, Dawnbreaker, whose effectiveness as a core decreases closer to the late, has become an even more tempo hero. Already at the 20th minute, the character can rush into the very thick of the fight with an ultimate, spin with the first ability, hanging along the way debuffs from the Magic Slayer and stunning, and pick up a double kill.

In short, lane has become easier, as fewer abilities can now interrupt Starbreaker. The hero accelerates quickly without spending money on an early BKB. He can calmly focus supports in the midgame with the help of Aghanim’s Shard, and in the late game – save the whole team with an ultimate or counter-initiate with lightning speed, issuing a stun in the area.

Pudge

As Ghostik said recently: “Pudge used to be a good hero, but now it’s a thrill.” And it is difficult to argue with this statement. The hero looked great in the last patch, and not only as a support, but also as a “three”, and even as a carry.

Pudge

At 7.30 it was practically not weakened, the decrease in the range of Dismember on allies and the change in the mana cost of Meat Hook can hardly be called a serious hindrance. But Valve endowed the hero with the ability to instantly kill any creep, except for the ancients, by hitting a “hook”. For an offlaner or carry, perhaps, this is not so important – they will endure their own on the lane. But the “four” can easily feed while moving around the map or kill creeps right on the lane, throwing Meat Hook into the large spawn.

By and large, nothing really changed for Pudge in the new meta, but this is its main advantage. The character was objectively strong in the last patch, and against the background of nerfs (albeit minor) of other meta heroes, he remained fat, whole, eagle. It is no coincidence that Pudge is now the second most popular character among professional players (in ordinary pubs, it does not happen otherwise). He is still good as a support hero with Aghanim’s Shard and scary as a core with Aghanim’s Scepter. If you want to play the Pudge carry, then check out our guide, after the release of 7.30 it is still up-to-date.

Bane

If you want to raise your MMR at 7.30 in fifth position, then (think carefully about changing position first) choose Bane. After the release of the patch, the character entered the top 30 most popular among professional players and at the same time has a winrate of 55%. In matchmaking, among all ranks, the percentage of victories of the hero increased by 3.81 and amounted to 52.05%.

Bane

In the last patch, Bane was one of the most unclaimed characters, and in the professional scene he was almost completely forgotten. Therefore, at 7.30, the developers significantly strengthened the hero. First, Brain Sap now costs less mana and has an increased cast range, making laning much easier. Still, this skill was always strong, but after the second use the hero usually had to drink Clarity and carry new Mango. Secondly, Nightmare has become the best and now deals pure damage every second. A trifle, but nice, besides Blink Dagger knocks down the enemy.

But the main thing is the ultimate buff. The delay before using Fiend’s Grip has been reduced by 0.2 seconds – a whopping two times. What does it mean? And the fact that catching enemy cows will become much easier. In addition, mobile characters like Monkey King, Void Spirit, Slark are becoming popular now. Previously, Bane could only catch them with an ultimate if the opponent decided to scratch his nose or pour himself some tea. Now it will be much easier. On the first day after the patch was released on stream, Nix had a remarkable game in which Levin was caught on Slark with great value over and over again by Bane, who, in fact, won the match for his team. Still, the importance of this support closer to the late is difficult to overestimate, and the micro-buffs described above help the hero get to this stage.
