During the trial Epic Games against Google interesting details were revealed – it turns out that in 2018 Google was discussing the possibility of purchasing Epic.
The docs say there were two main reasons:
- Google wanted to launch Fortnite in our own mobile Play Store
- the corporation was afraid of the first hit for Android outside the Play Store.
Such a prospect was affectionately called “contagion” by Google. As a result, discussions began on the possibility of acquiring Epic Games – in whole or in part. However, it is difficult to say how serious such conversations were. It seems that no formal offer has been made.
Among other things, by the way, Google has made a special offer to launch Fortnite on the Play Store.
