Incredible success “Quiet place”Made the family duo Krasinski and Blunt return to the sequel and expand the post-apocalyptic universe with several films at once. A direct sequel to the original film, “Quiet Place 2”, Continues the story of the Abbott family, which together with the newborn child leave the farm, hoping to find a colony of survivors. Barefoot, with a baby in their arms, but armed with a sonic weapon based on a receiver and a hearing aid, they are trying to survive in a greatly changed external world.
Krasinski does not change the formula that has already been tested, in some ways even repeating itself, but the new film offers much more plot holes and understatement. So, the main characters go barefoot, and the Emmet they met (Cillian Murphy) unnoticed by the monsters walks in shoes. And although some conspiracy theorists see hidden symbolism in this, it looks incredibly silly. However, like the monsters that recognize the sound of a crunching branch several kilometers away, they are waiting for the right dramatic moment to attack the main characters.
Despite the fact that Emily Blunt does not go beyond the image of a caring mother from the first part, Cillian Murphy and Millisend Simmons (Regan) cosplay beautifully The last of us… Bearded Killian is too much like Joel in his concern, and Millisend does an excellent job of playing the role of brave and sometimes reckless Ellie. There are even hints of a clash with the cannibals, which remains unsolved. The monsters themselves look good, but in some scenes they clearly lack detail.
The picture still relies on sound and atmosphere, but there are almost no really scary moments left. At the same time, there is certainly a sense of empathy in the cinema during a parallel development of events, when three key characters face mortal danger at the same time. Apparently, on the small screen it will not be so stressful.
Quiet Place 2 is not the worst film this year, incorporating good elements of the original, but suffering from plot holes, self-repetition and understatement, which is explained by the desire of the authors to release several more projects in a successful universe. Emily Blunt is still beautiful, but Millisend Simmons plays the role of Regan best of all. Only her character has a clear goal, to which she goes with the help of Emmet.
I would categorize A Quiet Place 2 in the category of films that do not cause feelings of disappointment, give a few tense moments, but also do not leave any strong memories.
