Jeff Grubb from GamesBeat citing his sources, reports that Hideo Kojima and Microsoft signed the so-called letter of intent. The parties intend to work out the details of the agreement on the publication of a new game by the Japanese game designer for the Xbox.
Grubb says the Microsoft and Kojima teams have spent months discussing a possible partnership, and it is now more than ever likely that these negotiations will bear fruit. The deal is so close that Microsoft has begun to prepare for what Kojima will need to create a new game.
It was revealed last week that gaming industry veteran Kim Swift (Portal, Left 4 Dead) has become the senior director of cloud gaming at Microsoft. Microsoft has hired Swift to help make Kojima’s cloud game a reality, Grubb said.
In addition, Grubb notes that the details of the project are known to few. The goal of the partnership is to unleash creativity Kojima Productionsusing Microsoft technology, rather than endorse a specific idea.
At the same time, Grubb considers it unlikely that Microsoft will ban Kojima from working with other companies.
