In honor of the birthday of Cybersport.ru, we decided to recall the vivid quotes of media personalities from e-sports that were published on our media, and find out if they have passed the test of time. How long has Dendi been talking about a possible move to another position? How did Thorin assess ZywOo’s prospects two years ago? What did Roman Dvoryankin say about Virtus.pro’s Polish roster a couple of months before his kick? The answers to all these questions are in the material Cybersport.ru.

Promising Polish squad
Problems with the Polish squad Virtus.pro CS: GO began a year and a half before the roster finally left the club. The team went through many reshuffles. The only thing that remained unchanged was the belief of the former CEO of Virtus.pro Roman Dvoryankin in the roster’s prospects: even in September 2018, after the team finished last in the first stage of the London Major, he continued to exude optimism.
Unfortunately, Virtus.pro players were unable to return “to where they should be”. Local successes in shooting-2 / shooting-3 championships are clearly not what the fans expected from the roster. Exactly one year after the previous statement, Dvoryankin again reminded everyone of the team’s potential:
Less than three months after this statement, Virtus.pro signed the roster AVANGAR by CS: GO. The Polish Counter-Strike failed to return glory.
Artifact – Hearthstone Killer
How much hype was around Artifact before its release! Most of the players who received the Closed Beta Key were enthusiastic about Valve’s CCG. A million dollar tournament loomed on the horizon, and clubs were already gathering lineups. What came of this, you probably already know very well – at the beginning of 2023, support for the game was officially stopped. Let’s remember what was said about Artifact in 2018 before its release.
Dvoryankin missed not only with the forecast regarding the success of Artifact, but also somehow prematurely buried Hearthstone, which is still definitely the most “live” CCG on the market.
Dendi will leave the mid lane?
Such rumors have appeared not only recently against the background of the failures of the B8, but also several years ago, when Danil Dendi Ishutin was still considered one of the strongest in the CIS. Even then, many analysts advised Ishutin to change his position. By the way, after TI9, Dendi himself said that he was ready to take this step, if there was such a need. Apparently, there is still no “need” – let us return to this topic during the celebration of the next anniversary of the site.
Many more believed in Dendi’s prospects in 2019. Vitaly v1lat Volochay believed that Ishutin needed a suitable team. Dendi probably listened to the commentator and even created his own team, but the promised “everything will be fine” is not yet visible on the horizon.
And even earlier, certain hopes were pinned on the very transition of Dendi to Tigers. Dmitry LighTofHeaveN Kupriyanov believed that the team could well break into the top 12 of the Major …
… But the team could not even make it to the closed qualifier for the Major – the roster was relegated to the 1/8 finals of the second open qualifiers.
Our team is the best – our team will be successful
Naturally, not a single professional player will wash dirty linen in public and will speak positively about his team. Therefore, we did not include most of these frankly insipid statements of the roster participants about their prospects and the desire to improve in the material. However, bypass the quote Ilya lil me alone Ilyuka, in which the cybersportsman promised that NAVI of 2018 will become the top-1 team, they simply could not.
Just to remind, NAVI could not even pass the open qualifiers for TI8 then, after which the roster was disbanded.
Erroneous predictions about the prospects of the rosters were given not only by their participants, but also by analysts. For example, Yaroslav NS Kuznetsov had a very high opinion of the updated Virtus.pro at the end of 2019 …
… Already a few months later, he will become one of the main haters of the roster and on the stream will analyze in detail the Save-errors in that legendary match against Liquid at the Major.
GuardiaN will play for sure, give it time!
Return Ladislava GuardiaN Kovacs in Natus Vincere in the fall of 2019, it became, perhaps, one of the most controversial, if not disastrous, transfers in the history of the CS: GO roster. The Slovak replaced the retired Zeus in the team, and also became the team’s regular sniper instead of s1mple. GuardiaN was already not at its peak at that time, but many, including the CS: GO commentator Arseny ceh9 Trinozhenkostill believed in the famous esportsman’s grand comeback.
Egor flamie Vasiliev went even further – a month and a half before the kick of the Slovak, he said that GuardiaN is in great shape and there are no problems.
You probably already know perfectly well that again “god” GuardiaN did not, and left the roster in January. NAVI fans would surely have forgotten this period in the history of the band with pleasure.
Aleksib was right
And here is one of the statements of the former captain of the squad ENCE by CS: GO Alexi Aleksib Virolainen can be called prophetic without exaggeration. In July 2019, commenting on rumors about the possible signing of suNny, he spoke extremely negatively about such a prospect. In his opinion, any reshuffle could severely hit the potential of the team.
A month and a half later, ENCE signed suNny and kicked Aleksib himself. This was, perhaps, a turning point in the history of the roster – with each passing month, the results were getting worse. When Aleksib voiced this idea, his team was considered a tier-1 team and ranked fourth in the HLTV.org rating. Now ENCE can hardly be ranked among the tier-2, and in the HLTV.org rating the roster has dropped out of the top 30. The community still considers this transfer to be one of the worst in esports history. By the way, there are now only two representatives of this country left in the “hope of the Finnish CS: GO”. Sorry Aleksib, they’ve lost everything …
What about the CIS, eh, NiKo?
Only the lazy one did not remember the quote Nikola NiKo Kovacs about CS: GO in the CIS during the tournament in Katowice, where four of our teams reached the final stage at once.
By the way, in Katowice, it was the teams from the CIS who sent the NiKo team home – first Team Spirit knocked out G2 from the upper bracket of Group A, and then Gambit in the decisive match of the lower bracket clearly proved that the Bosnian’s theses were wrong. NiKo, so what about CS: GO in the CIS?
Thorin, thank you for being there!
British analyst Duncan Thorin Shields can be called the king of trash in eSports. His Twitter literally every day is replenished with bright and provocative statements, most of which are far from being prophetic. Thorin has already buried Astralis more than once and at the same frequency put NAVI and s1mple on the pedestal. However, the analyst’s most curious prediction was a tweet in early 2019 about Mathieu ZywOo Herbaud…
If ZywOo was familiar with Russian-language memes, then after receiving the MVP in 2019, he probably could have replied to this tweet with the famous quote: “I just heard the opinion of an expert?”. It is a pity that the Frenchman is not particularly interested in Thorin’s intricate predictions …
