Known for his outspoken comments as a game director Yousef Fares (Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, A Way Out, It Take Two) felt the audience was too hard on Cyberpunk 2077…
As part of a discussion of his new game It take two with Jeff Kayleigh on Twitter Spaces (an analogue of Clubhouse), the Swedish-Lebanese developer answered some questions from the audience, in particular, commenting on the problems of developing the game during isolation.
Fares noted that they were personally lucky to carry out work on motion capture in the interval between the windows of the introduction of restrictions, thanks to which they managed to stay on schedule and keep the release of the game on the scheduled date. Continuing this thought, he expressed his sympathy for other developers who are facing tough choices due to the pandemic. Many studios had to either transfer their projects, which we are now clearly seeing in a number of transfers of games in 2023, or release them in a “rougher” state than expected.
Among the latter, Cyberpunk 2077 also guessed, which at the start faced criticism due to an abundance of errors and poor performance, especially on older consoles. However, Fares believes that the game “received an unfair amount of shit” and compared the whole situation to a “witch hunt”, apparently, referring to the persecution of developers on social networks.
It cannot be denied that Cyberpunk 2077 was released on release not in the form in which it was promised, but Fares is ready to give CD Projekt RED some indulgence, taking into account all the circumstances under which the game was released.
