SSD can be connected both internal (SATA III) and external storage (USB 3.0). In the first case, it will work a little faster, but in the second it is easier to install. In terms of speed, the PS4 Pro supports full SATA III, while the regular PS4 uses the slower SATA II.
Direct measurements showed that the download of games on SSD increased by up to 313%, depending on the game, location and other inputs.
In some games like “Witcher»The increase was not so significant, whereas in Days gone and Fallout 4 – more than noticeable. In some places, loading has accelerated almost twice, only in rare cases reaching more than 300%.
At the same time in “Wild Hunt”, Fallout 4, Days Gone and the remake Final fantasy vii all problems with loading textures disappeared – if textures were loaded on the HDD when quickly moving around the world or in some videos, then with SSD all problems disappeared.

Digital Foundry notes that when an SSD is connected via USB, the media and its data can be used on other PlayStation consoles when connected to the same account – nothing needs to be reinstalled.
On the PS5, for example, you can connect an external storage device to play PS4 games. This potentially means that an external drive from a PS4 can be simply plugged into a PS5, instantly accessing the entire library on the drive.
Downloads to HDD, SSD (USB) and SSD (Sata)
It is worth noting that on consoles of the new generation, SSDs will be several times faster than the Samsung presented here (560 megabytes per second): on the Xbox Series X, the speed of the drive will be from 2.4 to 4.8 gigabytes per second, and on the PS5 – from 4. 5 to 9 gigabytes per second.
