Last week we lit up editorial scandal Jason Schreyer Bloomberg and development manager The Last of Us: Part II by Neil Drackmannthat arose after the journalist Jeff Cannatetrying to emphasize the serious tone of the new game Naughty dog, compared her with the movie “Schindler’s list“about the Holocaust.
Schreyer did not like this, several of whose relatives died in Auschwitz. Only Neil Drackmann could reassure the investigator observer, but, as it turned out, not for long.
After that, Schreyer continued to add fuel to the fire and began to write taunts to journalist Jeff Cannata, provoking thousands of his subscribers to cyberbullying in his (Jeff) address:
“You know, audiologists at BioShock are a lot like a diary [трагически погибшей еврейской девочки] Anne Frank, “continued Schreyer.
Neil Drackmann saw this and again tried to reassure former Kotaku editor:
“With all due respect, I find such ironic“ jokes ”at best unproductive. We can better conduct a critical discussion, especially for those who have thousands of subscribers, and especially in those moments when it (the discussion) affects such sensitive themes”.
With all due respect, I find these kinds of ironic “jokes” to be unproductive at best. We can do better with critical discourse – especially by those of us with thousands of followers … and especially about sensitive subject matter. pic.twitter.com/E1qm8g2V94

Schreier answered:
“The conversation took on a personal character. I still don’t understand why you feel obligated to persecute me for expressing my opinion on the vulgarity of the analogy [между The Last of Us: Part II и “Списком Шиндлера”]. I hope this has nothing to do with my recent material about your studio *. All the best and good luck on the release. “
* In the spring of 2023, Schreyer released a large investigation into his work at Naughty Dog, where, referring to studio employees, he spoke about cases of hard processing and the problem cycle of creating The Last of Us: Part II.
After that, the creator of God of War (2018) Corey Barlog decided to join in the discussion. He respectfully appealed to Schreyer, but stated that he had recently been behaving abruptly on social networks.:
“It’s very difficult to tweak the nuances in tweets, but I have to say that you’ve been acting as a badass lately, Jason.
I understand that your bread and butter is a criticism of us, but not everything should be reduced only to your books and articles. Sometimes you just have to respect each other. “
Tweets are difficult to interpret nuance, but I have to say that lately you come across as a bit of a bully, Jason.
I get that your bread and butter is tearing us down, but not everything is about your book or articles. Sometimes it is just about being decent to each other.❤️

Jason sharply answered Barlog, mentioning the problem of processing in the studios:
“Wow, Corey. If by” us “you mean” people in power who contribute to overworking employees and labor exploitation, “then of course I can proudly say that my bread and butter is scolding you. If by “us” you mean “game developers”, then this is nonsense, and you yourself understand that. “
Corey reacted:
“Fix overwork problems [людей] and the exploitation of labor is something with which I ABSOLUTELY agree. I say that you must follow these issues, wherever they are, in the gaming industry or on your own in order to become the voice that will lead to change. Talk about EVERYTHING.
I’m keeping a professional distance, but you’ve been crossing it lately. “
Fixing exploitation + labor inequalities is something I ABSOLUTELY agree with. I say you follow that story wherever it leads, in the game industry or even your own, to be the voice for change. Tell the WHOLE story.
I get professional distance but lately you come across as mean.

Responding to one of the users, Barlog wrote:
“I believe that his investigations (Schreier) are not a” complete picture “(one-sided coverage of the topic in articles is implied – approx. GameMAG.ru).
But I fully support what he does. There should be more open discussion about this. “
After that, one Naughty Dog employee also decided to speak on the topic of Schreier’s investigation about studio refining and how it influenced people’s views on The Last of Us Part 2:
“When people dunk in the dirt what you worked hard for years on the pretext of unjustified protection of you and your colleagues, while you all just sit in the office and quietly watch … this is something my psychotherapist has to deal with for a long time.”
It should be noted that some of the ordinary users who expressed their disagreement with Schreier’s position were blocked by him:
After that, the journalist stopped responding to Sony developers and switched to the topic of the problem of “slavery” in the studios – a story with refining, quoting one of his colleagues. This correspondence about The Last of Us: Part II was completed.
