To the editors of the portal Gamemag.ru An external hard drive from the company was tested Western Digital – WD_BLACK P10 Game Drive. The device comes in three versions – at 2, 4 and 5 TB. The first in Russia can be bought for 7,000 rubles. The price of the second is about 12,000 rubles, and the third is 13,000 rubles.
The 2TB version is securely packed in a protective plastic container, which lies inside the dark gray box of cardboard.
The delivery kit includes the external hard drive itself, a USB cable (45 cm) for connecting to PC, Xbox one / Xbox one s / Xbox one x or Playstation 4 / Playstation 4 pro, a brief guide and information about the 3-year limited warranty in all languages.
The disk has a 2.5 “form factor and is placed in a black protective case with a light indicator and a connector for connecting on the left side. Gadget dimensions: 118 mm x 88 mm x 12.8 mm. The device is lightweight (140 grams) and portable – it can be placed in pocket.
Western Digital abandoned the familiar aesthetics of external HDDs in favor of a new, more industrial design. The WD_BLACK P10 Game Drive case is made of plastic, but looks like a steel container with rectangular cutouts and bolts in the corners. The gadget is painted black with white markings.
Below for reliability, he has four rubberized legs.
Options for 4 and 5 TB also look, but almost twice as thick (20.8 mm instead of 12.8).
WD_BLACK P10 Game Drive can be connected to the consoles and after quick settings in the console menu immediately start using it. And with a PC it’s still faster – the device becomes ready for use immediately after connecting the wire to USB.
1.8 TB is available for use.
We tested the gadget in all major applications (Crystal disk mark, Crystal disk info, AIDA 64 and Anvil’s Storage Utilities) and received results that are almost identical to the stated indicators on the box – 140 MB / s for reading and the same for writing.
The test was performed on a computer with a motherboard ASRock Z270 Gaming K4processor Intel Core i7 7700 3.6 GHz, 16 GB RAM and operating system Windows 10 Pro.
When copying a game folder Metro exodus (60.4 GB) s SSD on the Western Digital WD_BLACK P10 Game Drive 2TB the speed was almost always uniform – 120 MB / s. Data carried over 8 minutes 35 seconds. In this case, the temperature of the external hard drive, judging by the sensor, rose to 49 degrees Celsius (the temperature at rest is 33 degrees, and after the first tests – 43 degrees).

That is, in fact, the download speed on this external HDD is similar to the speed of the PS4 Pro internal storage.
After several hours of active work with the console (installing games and updates), the WD_BLACK P10 case becomes very warm, but not hot.
Western Digital WD_BLACK P10 Game Drive 2TB – A good option portable laptop with a nice design. It should appeal to those who want to significantly expand the space for games on the console without opening the PlayStation 4 case and not buying expensive SSDs. The device has an adequate download speed, which does not differ in performance from the internal storage of the PS4, but within the framework of the format, the price is still slightly higher. Western Digital has about the same WD Elements Portable 2 TB, which costs less with a less effective case.
