“Niche market, no money to make” – Cyberpunk 2077 developers spoke about virtual reality

Developers Cyberpunk 2077 Experimented with adding virtual reality technology to their game, but are not yet ready to seriously invest in VR and try to release a VR product. About this in an interview with the portal Onmsft reported John Mamais of CD Projekt RED.

Thus, the Cyberpunk 2077 will come out precisely without VR support. Whether there will ever be a full implementation of an option in a game, the studio does not yet know. The VR market at this stage of its development is very niche, Mamais said.

“We tried [связать Cyberpunk 2077 с VR]. We have been considering this issue, but so far we are not moving in this direction. We have VR devkits, some aspects of the game could work in virtual reality, but this concept does not seem viable today. It’s impossible to make a lot of money on VR, a very experimental and niche segment. I like VR, but right now we are not doing anything with the technology, “he explained.

Mamais added that serious work with VR requires resources, and the return will be very small, so now CD Projekt RED is fully engaged in the production of the usual version of the game. Recently, it was moved from April to September 2023.
