Introducing the next level of gaming.
The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are the first consoles ever with gaming in Dolby Vision® (coming soon) and Dolby Atmos® (available at launch) .
@Xbox, welcome to gaming in Dolby. https://t.co/5lkpVT8ntb– Dolby (@Dolby) September 10, 2023
Dolby Vision is said to deliver brightness, contrast, color and depth that go beyond traditional HDR gaming, offering 40 times brighter highlights, 10 times deeper black levels and support for color depths up to 12-bit.
Technically, Dolby Vision HDR for games is already supported on Xbox One X, but the technology is only available to testers through the Xbox Insiders program. It has never been publicly used in console games before, although some PC games can be run in 12-bit HDR. For example, Mass Effect: Andromeda and Battlefield 1 support Dolby Vision on PC.
Whether Dolby Atmos and Vision will appear on the PlayStation 5 is currently not reported. The console uses a new proprietary audio format Tempest 3Dwhich the company developed in-house to seemingly exempt Dolby’s license fees.
In terms of HDR, the PS5 is expected to offer only standard HDR10 support as Sony has taken a tough stance on Samsung’s HDR10 + format – President and COO Mike Fasulo told TechRadar that the company’s priorities are focused on other technologies.
Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S launch on November 10th. The PlayStation 5 release date is still unknown.
