Xbox Only: Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos Are Temporary Exclusives on Microsoft Consoles

In the console technology segment Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos declared temporary ecosystem exclusives Xbox for a period of two years. The corresponding message appeared on the official blog Microsoft

It is noted that Dolby Vision will provide brightness, contrast, color and depth beyond traditional HDR in games, offering 40 times brighter and brighter areas, 10 times deeper black levels and support for color depths up to 12-bit.

Microsoft began public testing of this technology in games on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in March.… A full launch should take place before the end of the year.

Dolby Atmos surround sound technology is also available on Xbox One in addition to Xbox Series X | S. Buyers of the new Xbox headset will be able to use the setup for free until September 2023.

Whether Dolby Atmos and Vision will appear on the PlayStation 5 is currently not reported. Sony Console Uses New Proprietary Audio Format Tempest 3Dwhich the platform holder developed in-house to seemingly be exempt from Dolby’s license fees.

When it comes to HDR, the PS5 only offers standard HDR10 support.
