Brazilian console fans Playstation outraged by the news about the price increase for games and services in the digital store PlayStation Store… They call the company Sony Interactive Entertainment introduce regional prices and comply with local corporate policy Microsoft… The situation is widely covered in local media and is already being discussed on Western platforms.…
According to the publication TecMundo, in May, Sony announced that it would increase the price of a PlayStation Plus subscription in Brazil by 33%, and a month later, without prior warning, PlayStation Hits games rose in price by 24% on the PlayStation Store. Both decisions sparked outrage among local gamers and resulted in “online protests”…
Users are asking Sony to pay attention to the problem and lower prices. They use hashtags in their posts. #PlayStationLowerPrices and #PlayHasLimits…
PlayStation owners point out that for a long time already they pay more for games than Xbox owners…
For example, the recently released collection Ninja gaiden master collection is sold on the PS Store for 214.90 reais (3,100 rubles), while in the Microsoft store it is offered for 184.95 (2,667 rubles). And this is far from the only example of price discrepancies. Here are a few more others (all prices are in BRL):
Spiritfarer
- PS Store: 124.90 (1.803 rubles)
- Microsoft Store: 57.45 (836 rubles)
Hades
- PS Store: 124.90 (1.803 rubles)
- Microsoft Store: 92.45 (1,340 rubles)
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
- PS Store: 274.90
- Microsoft Store: 199.00 (2,875 rubles)
Dead By Daylight 12,500 units of aurite (virtual currency)
- PS Store: 534.90
- Microsoft Store: 199.00 (2,875 rubles)
The PlayStation audience notes that in such conditions it becomes increasingly difficult for them to buy games, especially during the coronavirus pandemic, when unplanned spending can suddenly arise. Players are also asking Sony to take into account that the PlayStation 5 officially costs $ 100 more in Brazil than the Xbox Series X.… For the new generation console, they ask for 4,700 reais (almost ~ 68 thousand rubles; the minimum wage in Brazil is 1,100 reais).
PS Plus subscriptions will rise in price in Brazil starting July 7th.
- For 1 year – from R $ 149.90 to R $ 199.90 (RUR 2,885)
- For 3 months – from 64 reais to 84.90 (1.226 rubles)
- For 1 month – from 25.90 reais to 34.90 (505 rubles)
Games from the “PlayStation Hits” line have risen in price from R $ 79.90 to R $ 99.50 (RUR 1,445).
Sony’s official response is:
“The price adjustments for some of the games in the PS Store are in line with our ongoing assessment of market conditions. Our priority is to offer the highest quality products, deliver the best possible experience and meet user expectations.”
Brazilian media outlets write that Xbox fans are actively urging PlayStation owners to side with Microsoft, as prices for games and subscriptions are lower. At the same time, the Americans also offer the Xbox Game Pass service with hundreds of games for 30 reais (430 rubles) per month. As in Russia, PS Now has not been launched in Brazil.
It is interesting that if we translate the above prices for Sony products into rubles, it turns out that in Brazil only the PlayStation 5 costs significantly more than in Russia. New games from PlayStation Studios for nextgen are sold in the country for 350 reais (5,050 rubles against 5,499 rubles in the Russian PS Store), and a subscription to PS Plus in Brazil after the price increase will still be slightly cheaper than ours. Prices for “PlayStation Hits” are about the same.
