When you shouldn’t have taken up the sequel: Review of the film “Nanny. Queen of the Damned”

Published three years ago “Nanny”Became one of the most unexpected and successful projects of the streaming platform Netflix… A comedy horror that tries to turn the concept inside out “Alone at home”, Offered not only bright characters and a story that suddenly rolled into a vigorous trash, but also held tightly to the screen. In 2023, producer and director McGee decided to return with a sequel, copying the ideas of the original and hoping to win the hearts of loyal fans with humor and even more frenzy. But, now it is obvious that the success of the first “Nanny” was the result of chance circumstances and the magic of charm Samara Weaving

Film events “Nanny. Queen of the Damned”Unfolds two years after the end of the original. Growing up high school student Cole (Judah Lewis) became a real outcast at school. No one believed in his stories about the devilish cult, and the bodies of the Satanists were never found. Classmates mock him, and his parents want to send him to a mental hospital. And only a friend from the first part, Melanie (Emily Elin Lind), trying to support the guy, offering to unwind and go on a wild weekend trip.

However, the adventure will really be wild – after all, on the pleasure ship, in addition to games and laughter, the return of members of that same cult awaits them. And here, unfortunately, the main plot twist repeats the original, and some scenes are simply copied with a slight change in the scenery. Of course, the heroes are trying to make fun of themselves, blood flows like a river, the authors make fun of TikTok, bloggers or Mortal kombatbut it all looks like long-dead vines. Stupid and ridiculous.

The new heroine Phoebe (Jenna Ortega) seems like an extra link, and although the writers are trying to explain its importance, when they bring everything together into a single picture along with the three-minute return of Samara Weaving, there is a feeling of total disappointment. Sad as it may seem, the ending, sugar to squeaky teeth, past villains who have become good, and numerous clichés speak of the mediocrity of the writers.

Throughout the film, the characters talk a lot about sequels that have surpassed the originals, but if we talk about “The Nanny”, it would be better if the first part simply did not have this boring, secondary and devoid of charm continuation.
