As explained by the general manager of PlayStation in Russia Sergey Klisho, Sony was not the only publisher that produced discs at a plant in the city of Borovsk, Kaluga Region.. The direct decision to close the plant was not made by the PlayStation team.
Closing the Russian plant will not affect consumers in any way, Clicho said.. Games on physical media will continue to be sold in stores – they will be imported from Austria.
PlayStation top manager also indicated that more and more PlayStation owners are choosing digital versions of games.
“In recent years, sales of digital copies of games have grown significantly, which has affected the market for physical copies. This is a natural process and the choice of most consumers.”
Alexey Titarenko, a spokesman for the GfK agency, added that even before the closure of the Russian plant, Sony had recently sold discs in Russia mainly from Europe. Therefore, the players will not feel any changes.
