Author “The witcher” Andrzej Sapkowski gave an interview to the Polish edition Książki, in which he attributed his book saga to classic fantasy. The writer noted that he was surprised by the constant attempts to rank part of the audience The witcher to the “Slavic works.” According to him, books were written in isolation from the fact that he was born and lives in Poland. Sapkovsky believes that in general, the “Slavic spirit” in The Witcher is not enough. This is a universal work – it is not based on Slavic folklore, and no one made heroes by the Poles.

The books mention the goblin and kikimora, but at the same time there are the little mermaid Andersen and the Beast Jeanne- Marie Leprens de Beaumont. I believe it is worth emphasizing once again: “The Witcher” is a classic, canonical fantasy. There are as many Slavic there, as Starsky Vokulsky said, as much as poison in a match head. “
The writer also complained of endless talk about the cast on the Netflix series. In particular, he does not understand the claims of the audience, who did not like the fact that some of the characters were made black.
Sapkowski has nothing against this approach and emphasizes that he did not specify the skin color of the heroes in his books.
“As far as I remember, the books do not have a detailed description of skin color, so no one bothers the authors of adaptations to create their own way. Everything is possible and everything is allowed – who knows, maybe the characters really could be like that.
And this applies not only to the series. Earlier, my blond Zerotka in comics was made dark-haired because the artist had creative freedom. ”
Commenting on the growing interest in his works in the wake of the success of CD Projekt RED games and Netflix shows, the writer noted that “he is not going to bow to anyone’s feet”, as he created the saga. He wouldn’t change anything in his books either.
