In recent months, a gloomy action movie The Last of Us: Part II literally drowned in scandals. The game was in a whirlwind of heated debate and discussion long before its release, but when last month it finally reached the store shelves, the situation did not get better, but rather, on the contrary, discussions on social platforms have made an even more aggressive round.
Amid all this Neil Drackmann, development manager The Last of Us: Part II, several times spoke out that he was most worried about the events. As it turned out, the developer is very saddened by the fact that so many gamers are in a hurry to go in a burst of frustration and anger – ordinary developers and members of the cast are under attackwho are forced to read both unpleasant messages addressed to them, and real threats.
In this regard, the official account of the Naughty Dog studio published an appeal to the audience, in which the team tried to draw the attention of the audience to the general tone of the discussion and the destructive effect that it can have on the lives of ordinary employees.
Although we welcome critical discussion, we condemn any form of harassment or threats directed towards our team and cast. Their safety is our top priority, but we must all work together to root out this type of behavior and maintain a constructive and compassionate discourse. pic.twitter.com/eoq4t1ITnh

“Despite the fact that we fully support criticism and discussion, we will not tolerate favorite forms of bullying, humiliation and threats directed against our team and actors. Their safety is our top priority. We all need to work together to bring to nothing such behavior and maintain a consistent, constructive and respectful tone throughout the discussion. “
Meanwhile, Neil Drackmann himself posted on his blog a collage woven of threats, insults and derogatory messages, which developers seem to receive in huge quantities.
You can love or hate the game and share your thoughts about it. Unfortunately too many of the messages I’ve been getting are vile, hateful, & violent. Here are just a handful of them (feel it’s important to expose.) Trigger Warning: transphobic, homophobic, anti-Semitic, etc. pic.twitter.com/uR9vpGgYQa

“The game can be loved, hated and freely share your thoughts about it. But, unfortunately, the huge number of messages I received is absolutely terrible, full of hatred and destructive anger.”
