Khronos Group announces the public release of extensions to support ray tracing in the graphical API Vulkan. This should create the industry’s first open cross-platform rattrace standard, independent of hardware solutions.
Fact that u Nvidia Already have their own version of RT-terminology, but it works only on Windows and only with DirectX Raytracing. Khronos Group’s innovation should break this monopoly and, obviously, prepare the gaming industry for the arrival of ray tracing on the cards AMD.
An important aspect is that ray tracing in the Vulkan API can be implemented both on a card with and without hardware ray tracing accelerators. All this will allow technology to finally become an industry standard, and not a “toy for the elite.”
In AMD, NVIDIA, Electronic arts and Epic games already commented on the new product. So, Daniel Koch, senior graphics software engineer at NVIDIA and Vulkan Ray Tracing, said the demand for a truly cross-platform API to accelerate ray tracing is high, which will bring this technology to the masses.
And Andrei Zdravkovich, senior vice president of software development at AMD, noted the importance of standardizing ray tracing, which will bring this technology to a new level.
