Valve returns Dota 2 overall matchmaking ranking – review

Valve released an update for Dota 2, which replaced a separate rating of players on the main roles and support roles with a common MMR. According to the developers, the change will help matchmaking better take into account the level of gamers play on all five roles.

When searching for a match for the best role, the new system will take into account the full rating. Searching for a worse role, in turn, will result in matchmaking picking up a match at a lower MMR. In this case, victory or defeat will change the actual value of the rating.

Valve notes that the initial levels for each role will be calculated based on previous values of the split rating, as well as based on an analysis of the last 100 games. You can track the current rating adjustments for each role in the game menu.
