Valve Index helmets now let you recreate your room in VR

Developers from Valve released a fresh update for helmets Indexwhere they added a new experimental feature. It is called Room View 3D and allows you to recreate the room where the players are.
The system analyzes the data from the cameras and creates a model of the situation, estimates the depth of the room, and more. So far, the system does not always correctly recreate the situation, although the technology has a prospect. In particular, artifacts of the image are noted.
Update so far Steamvr Available only in beta version 1.13. In addition to Room View 3D, the patch also reduced lags in the system, allowing cameras to quickly transfer the picture to the user.
It is important to note that the system slightly distorts the image to match how the user sees the perspective. After all, cameras that transmit the image are physically on the helmet, and not where the gamer’s eyes are. Therefore, such a correction is needed.
Valve Room View 3D is essentially the same as Passthrough + on Oculus quest and Rift salthough the Oculus solution is much more stable. It remains to wait until the company improves its solution to the level of Facebook.
