Chapter Valve Gabe Newell commented on the role-playing scandal Cyberpunk 2077 in an interview with the New Zealand edition 1 News… He recalled that his company is focused primarily on PC gamers who are offered by the digital store Steam, so he looks first of all at what is happening there.
“All I know is that there are a lot of satisfied gamers on PC,” he said (Cyberpunk 2077’s Steam rating is 78% – reviews are mostly positive – GameMAG’s note).
Newell himself also got acquainted with Cyberpunk 2077 on PC. He noted that many aspects of the game are performed at a brilliant level.
“[CD Projekt] did a huge amount of work. It’s not fair to throw stones at any developer who is releasing something so complex and ambitious, because that in itself is already amazing, “says the head of Valve.
Newell empathizes with developers who have to find a compromise when creating games for hardware of completely different levels. In this case, Cyberpunk 2077 was sharpened for PC, and when optimizing on consoles of the outgoing generation, serious problems arose.
At the same time, the head of Valve was surprised by the decision Sony to remove Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store – he called it unexpected and unusual.
Gabe Newell believes that CD Projekt should be given a chance to fix Cyberpunk 2077. In the past, it has released “raw” projects, which then improved with patches. At the same time, it is important not to respond with aggression to aggressive messages from fans. He takes the same approach when he receives angry emails from Valve fans.
“People are pissed off because they care,” Newell said.
