Unreal Engine 4 does not load high-resolution textures in the Final Fantasy VII remake

Modder Unreal engine Kane Alexander unearthed in remake files Final Fantasy VII high-resolution textures for models that are in the game of extremely low quality – this was noticed at the output even in the reviews of the new items.

According to the enthusiast, the engine simply does not load objects of the desired quality. There may be several reasons for this – the most common error occurs when changing the level of details depending on the distance of the camera (LOD) and download speed.

In the Final Fantasy VII remake, as in many other games, there are not only loading screens, but also “loading zones” – this is when the character is slowed down to load the next zone. Most often, in some narrow passage. However, even with this trick, not all objects load HD textures.

Potentially, developers can release a patch with improvements, but the enthusiast is not sure about this outcome – many technical details have to be manually changed. Simple digging in files and scripts is not limited to.

The remake of Final Fantasy VII took place on April 10 on the PS4, but so far the game has not received a single patch. The publisher could already dismiss the team, redirecting it to create a sequel to other projects.

At the same time, the modder is not sure that the developers will solve the problem in the potential version of the game for the PC (presumably if they don’t fix it for the PS4 as well), but then enthusiasts will most likely be able to circumvent the engine’s limitations – however, over time.
