At the end of January, companies WarnerMedia and Legendary Pictures published a trailer for the movie “Godzilla vs. Kong“(Godzilla vs. Kong). In Russia, the release of the tape will take place on March 25, 2023, while in the USA it will be distributed according to a hybrid model (in cinemas and through a streaming service HBO Max).
The film is already the fourth in a row, included in the so-called “Universe of Monsters” (MonsterVerse). The further future of the franchise depends on its success, for with each new tape the fees have been steadily falling.
However, the first trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong” aroused increased interest from the audience, which began to discuss who will win the battle between Godzilla and Kong… Producer Adam Wingard hinted that there will be only one finalist.
Most bet on Japanese daikaiju, while the oversized gorilla has become the subject of numerous jokes and memes. Others are betting on Kong, paralleling sports films in which the outsider wins at the end. But attentive fans suspected that WarnerMedia’s PR people were just throwing dust in their eyes.
Attention! Spoilers for Godzilla vs. Kong to follow!
You see, there’s something weird going on with the proportions of Godzilla in the trailer. So, the lizard is taken to the aircraft carrier that transported Kong. This is simply impossible, and this is not at all about assumptions in Hollywood films.
This can be best understood by comparing footage from the video and the film “Godzilla” Gareth Edwards… Judging by the trailer, the size of the lizard is comparable to that of a battleship. At Edwards, the dimensions of the monster are much larger than the aircraft carrier, which Godzilla would simply drown with her weight.
In film “Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters” Michael Dougherty Daikaiju’s dimensions are also not very different from what we saw in Edwards’s work. As for Kong, he really could have grown up, because in the prequel “Kong: Skull Island” Jordan Vot-Roberts the emphasis was on the youth of the gorilla.
So what’s going on? The most popular theory is that the main threat in the feed will be Mechagodzilla… At the very beginning of the trailer, you can see several shots in which the city is demolished by a certain mechanical creature with neon red lights. There is also a frame with a Japanese man, against which a display with a diagram resembling a robot is visible.

And recently, an image of a new line of figurines leaked to the Web Funko POP!where you can see Mechagodzilla. At the same time, the announcement of the toys took place several months ago, but then the lizard robot was not shown.
Spoiler leaks from toys are quite common as all details need to be agreed upon between studios and manufacturers to get merchandise on the shelves for the premiere.
According to fans, the first trailer of the film featured the offspring of Godzilla, which should not be surprising, since there have always been two lizards in the Japanese Daikaiju film series. Presumably, in the new film, the original Godzilla will die, after which, based on it, scientists from a secret organization “Monarch“will create Mechagodzilla (this scenario was used in a new line of projects from Toho), with which the new Godzilla and Kong will have to fight.
However, it is possible that the giant robot will not be the main threat. The commercial shows Kong fighting the Warbats, giant snake-like creatures with wings. Description of the new figure from Playmates indicates that there are many such monsters hiding in the Hollow Earth, and fans of theories suggest that in the film they can try to arrange the end of the world by eating people and even killing the original Godzilla.
Godzilla vs. Kong is out on March 25, so the wait isn’t long.
