This is the end: Microsoft closes the streaming service Mixer – to spin it with Twitch stars failed

Corporation Microsoft announced the closure of the streaming service Mixerfrom which she for a long time tried to make a competitor Twitch. In a month, the site will completely stop its work.. At the same time, the Xbox team will begin to work closely with the group Facebook gaming.

In conversation with the publication The Verge Phil Spencer admitted that Microsoft entered the streaming race too late – the market was already divided. Despite all the efforts and involvement of Twitch stars like Ninja, the Mixer service could not reach the level expected of him. Therefore, Microsoft decided to abandon its own initiative in favor of a partnership with Facebook Gaming.

July 22, the official website and all Mixer applications will begin to redirect viewers to Facebook Gaming. Mixer streamers with affiliate programs will be offered affiliate status on Facebook Gaming. At the same time, the main stars of the Ninja and Shroud level will be able to return to Twitch if they wish – they are free.

In turn, all viewers who supported bloggers with Mixer subscriptions will receive bonuses. For example, Xbox gift cards.

As explained by Phil Spencer, the partnership with Facebook Gaming team Xbox went in connection with the imminent launch of the gaming cloud service xCloud. To fully unlock the potential of the Microsoft platform, you need a large video platform. It is planned that viewers in one click will be able to launch the same games in the cloud that their favorite streamers broadcast, and interact with them in various ways. Something similar was previously invented by Google – for Stadia, but it is going to implement its ideas on YouTube, while Microsoft itself has nothing of the kind.

Phil Spencer recalled that the Xbox team aims to reach two billion people around the world, and for this it needs powerful tools. Facebook Gaming seems to be one of these, because we are talking about the streaming section of the world’s most popular social network.

Microsoft was considering the option of further investing in the promotion of Mixer, but abandoned this venture, since there are no guarantees.
