The smallest portable Nintendo 64 was created – it got into the Guinness Book of Records

First revealed in December 2023, a portable version of the console Nintendo 64which youtuber and modder personally collected Gunnar “GmanModz” Ternqvist, has now been officially recognized Guinness book of records as the smallest modified N64 in the world

The original N64 wasn’t the heaviest and largest home console of any gaming system in the 90s, but it took a lot of tinkering to convert it to the portable form factor GmanModz. The main problem was the size of the motherboard. The enthusiast had to scrutinize complex connections, cut the board and rewire its tiny circuitry, but the end result has more than paid off. After all the manipulations done, the dimensions were reduced to 8.4 cm x 11.8 cm x 4.50 cm, which is 23% less than the 2015 record.

The homemade product received a 3.5-inch LCD screen, a built-in battery for 1.5 hours of autonomous operation, as well as full-function buttons and analog sticks from SwitchMost importantly, the portable N64 retains full compatibility with the original physical cartridges.

As the author himself noted, the reward for achieving this record for him is not the record itself, but the opportunity to improve skills that allow you to push the limits of the capabilities of old gaming technologies and combine them with modern advances in this area, such as 3D printing, programming microcontrollers and design of printed circuit boards.
