The Outer Worlds Review | Gamemag

Last year company Obsidian in collaboration with a publishing label Private division the company Take-two released The outer worlds – A new RPG project in the genre of science fiction with an artistic bias in retro. The game was played by Leonard Boyarsky and Tim Kane – the authors of the original dilogy Fallout, in connection with which the attention to the game was more than close.

The Outer Worlds did not disappoint and received high marks from both critics and ordinary players, after which publishers announced a version for Nintendo switch. The prospect of playing a large role-playing game from Obsidian in a portable format looked great, but something obviously went wrong …

As practice has shown, even with certain limitations, the Nintendo Switch can adequately cope with the ports of AAA projects, like the third “The witcher”And The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition. According to the assurances of the developers, The Outer Worlds was supposed to work in 720p resolution in portable mode and 1080p in the dock, but the final result is, to put it mildly, perplexing. What happened with the graphic component in this version of the game can be described in one word – disaster.

The image is literally blurring before our eyes: many elements of the environment, like trees, were cut out, which made the landscape look like a lifeless desert covered with a spreading slurry from dirty green textures, which upon closer examination are similar to the installations of contemporary artists painting feces. All this is clouded by a thick film of bluer, in which literally nothing is visible.

In such circumstances, there is no question about the range of drawing: objects and textures appear from the air right in front of your nose and disappear right away, if you turn away, well, it’s almost impossible to see enemies in the distance – you immediately recall jokes about “which of these pixels is a person” .

In enclosed spaces, where you most often will be surrounded by sterile gray walls, the game more or less keeps afloat, but if you just go out into the countryside, especially in the light of day, you seem to get into the alpha version of a Polish shooter from the early 2000s .

This uniform disgrace is crowned by the fact that the game still manages to slow down when a large number of objects appear in the frame, as well as in the most stressful moments, such as shootings.

The technical performance of the port cannot be called simply unsuccessful – the nauseating soap graphics put so much pressure on the eyes that it interferes with normal play, especially on the hardcore complexity, where you need to concentrate as much as possible.

It may seem that in the portable version of The Outer Worlds it should help out a small screen that hides many flaws, but suddenly an anvil flies from above, breaking the bottom again – in addition to the disgusting graphics, players are trying to deprive of sight, forcing them to peer into microscopic fonts. Even if you unscrew the size of the text in the menu to the maximum, you will not notice much effect.

When connected to the docking station, of course, reading becomes much easier, but when playing on a large TV, you obviously need a large basin to at least somehow endure several hours of contemplation of this nightmare.

Save the situation except for the long loading screens that allow you to walk with the dog, drink tea or go to Tibet for cleansing karma.
