Moreover, a new trilogy from Disney directly borrowed characters and storylines from old works that were derived from the official canons under the brand “Legends” (Star Wars: Legends). According to a well-known insider and editor-in-chief of the publication Geekosity Mikey Sutton, the future of The Mandalorian is directly related to the old canon. According to Mikey Sutton’s sources, Lucasfilm intends to make Grand Admiral Thrawn the central villain of all projects based on The Mandalorian. For this, the storylines from The Thrawn Trilogy will be reworked.
In the books, the genius Chiss gathers the scattered forces of the Empire under his command and begins a war against the New Republic, managing to blockade its central planet – the former Imperial center of Coruscant.
Lucasfilm is reluctant to quote the work of Timothy Zahn verbatim, but the influence of the books will be undeniable. In this case, not only Thrawn himself, but also other characters from the books may appear. For example, “Emperor’s Hand“- reporting directly Shiva Palpatine killer Mara Jade, who in “Legends” became the wife Luke Skywalker… The studio wants to suggest a role Karen Gillanhowever, negotiations have not started yet.
The central problem of the idea is that one of the main characters of the “Thrawn Trilogy” is the princess Leia Organa… Given the death of the actress Carrie Fisher the writers will have to work hard to finalize the concept.
Another interlocutor of Sutton does not exclude that the confrontation with Thrawn in “The Mandalorian” will result in a grand finale in the form of a full-length film in which all the key characters will gather in order to oppose the threat in style “Avengers“.
Will Star Wars Reboot?
The season 2 finale of “The Mandalorian” has once again led fans to question whether Lucasfilm plans to reboot the entire Lucasfilm universe. Editorial staff GameMAG has previously covered rumors on the topic, but several additional hints have emerged over the past months.
The main discussions revolved around the poster for the series “Ahsoka”, where you can see the same “Power Well“, which allegedly will be involved in the reboot of the Star Wars universe.
However, Filoni and Favreau said in interviews that “The Mandalorian” is nevertheless associated with the new trilogy and the creation of the First Order. There are references to this in the second season (Operation “Ash“, Moff’s plan Gideon), but it was implemented very carefully. There are also hints of a reboot (shown in the second season of the “wrong” explosion of the Death Star).
It seems that Lucasfilm is now finally divided into two parts: the Kennedy team and the Favreau team. At the same time, the pandemic and the success of The Mandalorian have strengthened the position of the head of the studio, so it is unlikely that Kennedy will leave Lucasfilm in 2023. She now directly oversees three projects: “Acolyte“,”Indiana Jones 5“and”Children of blood and bones“.
But Favreau and Filoni, who are engaged in their projects: “The Mandalorian”, “Ahsoka”, “Rangers of the New Republic“,”Boba Fett’s book“,”Bad Company“.
As a result, there is a kind of competition in which the team of Favreau and Filoni is still in the lead. And the Kennedy team in 2023 was marked by a passing cartoon “LEGO Star Wars Celebration Special“, in which the audience is again offered torture in the form of adventure Ray Palpatine… The cartoon was released on Disney + and was almost immediately forgotten because of The Mandalorian and the final season of The Clone Wars.
