the main thing from the investigation into the problems of Dying Light 2 – review addiction

We have already talked more than once about the problematic production of a number of games – be it Mass Effect: Andromeda, Anthem, Cyberpunk 2077 or some other loud releases.

For the most part, the mistakes during development were the same: there was no clear vision of the final product, a lot was often altered and thrown away, specialists “burned out” and left, and in the end, the team on their knees assembled something remotely similar to a game in a year and a half.

All of this, according to Kirk McKean’s investigation for The Gamer, inherent and Dying light 2… The game was originally planned to be released a year ago (and non-publicly they wanted to send it on sale back in 2019), but since that time the project has already been significantly redone – and more than once.

Many things announced at the announcement have long been abandoned – yes, they removed the global nonlinearity with the influence of the player’s actions on the city, like all the developments of Chris Avellone. The current scenario is called a “dump of disjointed ideas.”

Most of all they complain about the head of the company Pavel Marchevka. He makes all the minor decisions, slows down processes and can cancel months of work – moreover, there have been cases when he abandoned previously approved ideas.

According to employees, Marchevka is highly influenced by outsiders and actively monitors social media. However, he does not listen to his employees. In general, developers constantly have to argue over certain ideas instead of having healthy discussions.

All this creates a hostile atmosphere, and truly talented specialists leave the studio – they just get tired of working in constant conflicts. The year is 2023, Dying Light 2 is not visible or audible, although initially they wanted to release it two years ago.

Globally, that’s all: the material also reports that the company, against the background of a heat of personnel, attracted specialists from large studios like EA and Ubisoftbut it didn’t work in the end as the managers continued to choke them.

But the current investigation has one distinguishing feature: the head of Techland, Pavel Marchevka, spoke about the situation from his side. He reduced most of the problems to the fact that the studio is constantly trying to come up with something new, so there are aggressive discussions.

At the same time, he denied any humiliation of employees, and stated that he cares about the welfare of employees. In addition, during the year, it will launch courses to improve communication within the team.
