Apple It has been working for some time on replacing Intel processors in its product line with its own chips. And now the first batch of solutions with new ARM processors should appear in the foreseeable future.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Macbook and iMac with new CPUs may come out in the first quarter of 2023. This will not only eliminate the dependence of the corporation from Cupertino on Intel, but also significantly reduce product prices. According to the source, Apple’s own processors will be 40-60% cheaper than the solutions of the “blue” chip maker.
On the other hand, this will require rewriting macOS, since a change in processor will also mean a change in architecture. Thus, it will be about the same as what happened in 2005, when Apple abandoned PowerPC processors in favor of Intel chips.
At the moment, it is not known how much the company has advanced in this direction. However, the fact that application support with iPad is announced in recent versions of macOS indicates preparation for the transition.
