Back in November 2015, the company Activision, which owns the copyright for the Call of Duty shooter series, has launched its own studio for the production of motion pictures and television series. The team’s plans included “powerful cinematic universe” Call of Duty. The debut film was supposed to appear in 2018 or 2019, but this never happened. And apparently, the fans will have to be patient, since there was information about the freezing of work on film adaptation of a popular series of shooters.
In an interview with the Italian site BadTaste.it, the director Stefano Sollima (“Killer 2. Against all”, the series “Gomorrah“) discussed the upcoming film as part of a conversation about a new criminal television series”Zero Zero Zero“from Sky Atlantic. According to him, “The idea of expanding the Call of Duty universe with movie adaptation is no longer a priority for Activision.”.
In his speech he uses the word “frozen”, which allows us to talk about the suspended state of the product. The specialist noted that this happens quite often in America. Most likely, the film based on Call of Duty has not been canceled, but fans of a series of popular shooters will have to wait a long time for it to appear.
In an interview with Sollima, he also confirmed that the script for the film adaptation was written Scott Silverwhose recent track record is Oscar-winning the movie “Joker” starring Joaquin Phoenix.
The publisher has not yet commented on this information.
