Housemarque wanted to acquire not only Sony, but also other “big players in the industry”, but the Finnish studio refused their offers in favor of Playstation studios…
The founder and head of the company, Ilari Kuittinen, spoke about this, without giving names, but noting that these were “ordinary suspects” – from China (Tencent?), Sweden (Embracer Group?) And USA (EA, Activision, Take-Two?).
“Spring is unusual. They literally fought for us, which seems a little surreal.“.
But the key was Sony’s desire to acquire Housemarque – firstly, the companies have been cooperating for more than 15 years, and secondly, the Finnish team makes excellent and unique games that are unlike anything in the industry today.
Returnal was the studio’s first major project, but the next game will be even more ambitious.
