Survey results:
- 70% – over 24 years old
- 59% are men
- 41% are women
- 85% played mobile games at least once a month
- 70% played a PC game at least once a month
- 29% played console games at least once a month
At the same time, the attitude towards games in Russia has changed. In 2019, 25% supported the hobby (and played themselves) or had a positive attitude towards it, and in 2023 – already 33%.
PC games
Only 15% buy games at retail. Top popular genres have not changed. The popularity of battle royale, survival simulators, MOBA, sports simulators and sandboxes has grown slightly.
Nearly half of the players under the age of 24 surveyed preferred crafting games and survival simulations, and the audience over 35 preferred strategy and collectible card games.
PC players have started buying in-game services and services more often. The number of those paying more than 2,000 rubles a month has grown significantly. The average bill for the purchase of PC games increased by 64% to 1,810 rubles, and for the purchase of in-game items – by 73% to 1,086 rubles.
Console games
The audience of console players has grown, as well as the proportion of women and players over 35 among them. Of those surveyed, 46% are considering buying a next-gen console in the next six months. Of these, almost 80% are considering PS5, and 19.2% are already playing on next-gen consoles.
The popularity of battle royale and military vehicle simulators has grown. Women prefer crafting and RPG games and least of all horror games.
Console gamers have become less likely to pay for games, but more often to buy in-game services and services. However, the average bill for the purchase of games increased by 30% to RUB 3,002, and for the purchase of in-game items – by 20% to RUB 1,654.
Mobile games
- 78% use only Android devices
- 17% started playing mobile games less than a year ago
- 30% watch other content in parallel with the game
Mobile gamers have begun to pay more and more for the games themselves and in-game services. The average bill for the purchase of mobile games increased by 46% to 949 rubles, and for the purchase of in-game items – by 96% to 837 rubles.
More than half of the respondents play 2-3 mobile games at once, and a third – only one. The main selection criteria are low cost (or lack thereof), a small amount of advertising and the ability to play without the Internet.
Top 3 popular genres for men: MOBA, battle royale and action games. For women: Hidden Object Scene, Time Management, and Music Games. Teens prefer competitive games, review and sandboxing, while audiences over 35 prefer match-3 games.
