The authors of Mass Effect Legendary Edition used modifications as a guideline – review addiction

In conversation with PC Gamer project manager Mac Walters stated that during development Mass Effect Legendary Edition the team used the modifications as a guide.

“At the very beginning, we looked at some of the modifications and said to ourselves: ‘Okay, this is our minimum bar, this is where we should move on, right?“ Obviously, modders have limited access to assets. We have full access to them. ”- Mac Walters

Environment Director Kevin Meek added that he was initially skeptical about modifications that improve texture quality using artificial intelligence, but later studied them and was amazed.

“We knew that with the help of AI we could reach a baseline across all textures and get the same amount of visual enhancements or even more than mods, because we have a lot of advantages that they don’t. We can work on uncompressed original textures at full resolution. Whereas what the modders have was compressed and put on disk, and then they increased the resolution. ”- Kevin Meek.

The developers also looked closely at modifications that add new hairstyles and casual outfits for Shepard. Their popularity gave the team confidence that these innovations were worth investing time and effort into.

At the same time, Walters could not 100% confirm that modifications that returned cut content and unused dialogue to the game will be able to work with the Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

However, the developers want modders to work on the Mass Effect Legendary Edition from the very beginning, so we talked to some of them and found out what is important to them.

“Modders have the advantage of not having to be constrained by certification requirements, disk size issues, and any repercussions.” – Kevin Meek

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition will be released on May 14th on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
