The authors of “Jack Reacher” wanted to make the sequel harder and darker

Screenwriter and Director Christopher McQuarrie said that together with Tom Cruise wanted to develop a franchise Jack Reacher in a darker direction.

McQuarrie shot and painted a picture of 2012, but did not start the sequel – apparently, one of the reasons was different views on the series with the studio.

Reacher could have become a franchise with a higher rating (from 17 years old), and the authors were ready to touch the dark side of the hero’s story, better conveying the atmosphere of the original books. According to McQuarrie, in the world after Deadpool and The Joker this would be possible, but then no one gave them to do it.

However, McQuarrie added that he is now working with the actor on a certain film with the same rating – and it is a question of some completely uncharacteristic role for Cruise. Compared to this project, Reacher’s ideas look like a “kindergarten.”

But while the author is preparing to return to the production of new parts of the franchise “Mission Impossible” – this will happen as soon as the team is allowed to resume filming, which was stopped due to the coronavirus.
