Following the announcement FPS Boost for Xbox Series X / S specialists from Digital foundry released a video in which they tested the “boost” on the example of five games where it is already available.
Recall that the FPS Boost function at the system level increases the performance in selected titles by 2-4 times for backward compatibility without the need for developers to interfere with the game code.
- Far cry 4 – did not get any enhancements on Xbox One X and was bound to 30 frames at 1440x1080p. Now: the same resolution, but with reinforced concrete 60 FPS on both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S;
- Watch dogs 2 – also not updated for Xbox One X and ran at 1600x900p at 30 FPS. FPS Boost boosted the frame rate on the Xbox Series X / S to 60 FPS without a drop in even the fastest driving.
- Sniper elite 4 – unlike PS4 and PS4 Pro, where the game runs with unlocked FPS, the Xbox One version had a 30-frame lock. Running the game in FPS Boost removes this limitation, and with the much more powerful Xbox Series X hardware, previous performance issues are a thing of the past. However, on Xbox Series S, some scenes with heavy alpha effects and kills during X-Ray can drop up to 50 FPS or lower in more severe cases, but without any hint of tearing. The resolution in both cases remains the same – 1920x1080p.
- Ufc 4 – 900p / 30 FPS on Xbox One S turned to 900p / 60 FPS on Xbox Series S, and the Xbox Series X version, in addition to the previously available 1080p / 60 FPS performance mode, now allows you to play 60 FPS in 1800p quality mode against 30 FPS on Xbox One X. All cutscenes are now also tied to 60 frames, while earlier, regardless of the selected mode, the cutscenes were running at 30 FPS.
- New super lucky’s tale – 4K / 60 FPS on One X and 1080p / 30 FPS on One S increased thanks to FPS Boost to 4K / 120 FPS and 1080p / 120 FPS on Series X and Series S, respectively. There are no other changes in terms of graphics, but the jump in performance is noticeable.
