Publisher Take-two filed a claim against authors re3 and reVC – fan versions Grand theft auto iii and Vice city respectively, created using reverse engineering.
Thanks to open source, other enthusiasts have ported games to platforms such as the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation Vita. The company considered it a violation of intellectual property and wants to collect $ 300,000 from the developers – $ 150 for each game.
Earlier, Take-Two had already achieved the removal of re3 and reVC from Githubbut the authors subsequently appealed against the strike. In addition, they disagree with the accusations, since their creations only mimic the work of the original code, and do not copy it.
