Netflix continues to march around the world, releasing projects not only from its Western authors, but also from Asian partners, most of which are in Japan and Korea. About “Alice”And #Alive we told you quite recently. Two months later, I got to last year’s premiere – horror series Sweet home…
Show based on popular webtoon Naver from Kima khan bi (Carnby) and Hwang Young-chana, which has received more than 2 billion views, talks about a high-rise building, prepared for demolition, where motley characters experience difficult moments in their own lives.
After the death of all family members in a car accident and against the background of humiliation at school, the main character Chha Hyun-soo decides to say goodbye to life on August 25 exactly, but a few days before the red date, a strange epidemic engulfs Korea – people begin to turn into monsters. Now the young guy and previously unsociable neighbors unite to resist the invasion of monsters.
For all the originality of the idea, the creators of the show periodically lose pace, as a result of which some episodes offer dynamic battles with monsters, as if stepping onto the screens from the world Resident evil, while others slide into endless reflection and self-digging of motley characters. The computer graphics look acceptable, although the overall budget of the entire project is visible.
Fashionable Serial Actor Son Gan Chha Hyun-soo copes with the role of the inhibited loser, but he is really overshadowed Lee Jin-wook, who plays a brutal and charismatic assassin, and a former boxer, now an actress and star of “Tiktok” Lee Shi-yeon as a brave firefighter. However, as I noted earlier, the authors are dragging out the story a lot. They add awkward plot twists and even introduce a villain promising a return for the trio next season, apparently no earlier than 2023. And therefore, some series arouse interest and even admiration, while others make you wonder whether it is worth spending time on this project.
As a result, you can watch Sweet Home, but like most Korean dramas, in the background, as the writers most of the time try to return to the history of each of the characters, digging into the past, or crank up some kind of surprise to increase the general degree of madness. And yes, horror elements are fully present here, which should delight fans of the genre.
