Suitable for reading and watching movies: Review of the inexpensive tablet Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus

Time is inexorably advancing, and today it is difficult to imagine a modern person who would not use various convenient devices that have firmly taken root in our lives. Tablets are not the most popular of them, but very important. If earlier a schoolboy had to lug a heavy portfolio with a bunch of necessary teaching aids, now all this can easily fit into a thin and light tablet. Moreover, such devices are perfect not only for study, but also for evening entertainment before going to bed, because on the large screen of the tablet it is very convenient to read news, books and manga, as well as watch videos and TV shows. Unfortunately, there are not many solutions on the market today from well-known manufacturers with acceptable characteristics and a price not exceeding 20 thousand rubles. But they are.

A tablet came to us for testing, which combines a large 10.3-inch screen, a metal case, LTE and an 8-core processor – at a price in the range of 16-18 thousand. Today we will talk about a product from the company LenovoTab M10 FHD Plus

COMPLETE SET AND APPEARANCE

The Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus comes in a small, thin box with all the most important specs on it. We can say that this budget gadget has a pretty decent colorful outer packaging that carries full information about the contents. In terms of configuration, everything is very standard: a tablet packed in a technical film, a clip for removing the slot for a SIM card and a memory card, a small booklet with instructions, a cable from USB-Type C to USB-Type-A, and a charger for 10 Tue Classic set.

We got a steel gray tablet. There is also an alternative on the market – “platinum gray”. It looks a little lighter.

The tablet weighs 0.441 kg, which is perfectly acceptable for a 10 “solution. Dimensions – 244 x 153 x 8 mm. In the landscape arrangement and on the sides of the Tab M10 FHD Plus, the bezels are 9 mm, and the top and bottom are only 6 mm. The frames are not to say that they are large, but they cannot be called small either. On the other hand, you should definitely not have false touches.

The Tab M10 FHD Plus has a metal body, but the sides are made of plastic for a stable mobile signal. On the metal part on the back, there are the Lenovo and Dolby Atmos logos, as well as the main camera module protruding a couple of millimeters with a metal edging and glass protection.

On the top edge of the case, there are volume rockers, a power button, a slot for installing a SIM card and a MicroSD memory card. The manufacturer has placed microphones on the sides of the SIM slot.

Stereo speakers are located in the upper sections of the side edges of the case on the right and left. The place of installation was chosen conveniently, since when watching a movie or listening to music, the user does not block the sound output with his hands. The left side has a 3.5 mm jack for connecting wired headphones, and the right side has a USB-Type C 2.0 jack for charging or connecting external devices. At the bottom of the tablet case there is a connector for connecting to a docking station.

SCREEN, USE AND CONVENIENCE

I would like to pay special attention to the updated Lenovo display. The screen size is 10.3 inches and occupies 83% of the front surface. The tablet uses an IPS matrix with a resolution of Full HD + (1920 x 1200 pixels) 16:10 format and a standard refresh rate of 60 Hz. The pixel density is 220 ppi and the brightness is at 330 nits.

The tablet’s screen is glossy and has an oleophobic coating, which makes it less dirty. The manufacturer decided to place the camera not above the screen in the landscape position, but on the left side, so that the front-facing camera is more convenient to use when making video calls in portrait mode. There is a light sensor and a small LED indicator next to the camera.

Since there is no fingerprint sensor in this device, the manufacturer decided to use the camera to unlock the face. True, it is difficult to call the function work 100%. When used, a lot will depend on the lighting in the room.

The Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus operating system is one of the advantages. Naked Android 9.0 is installed out of the box without any shells and with a minimum of third-party applications for working with the tablet. At the same time, the device offers an upgrade to the 10th version of the operating system. You can install all the necessary applications yourself from the Google Play Store.

Separately, I would like to tell you about the “child mode”, which is pre-installed by the manufacturer. For example, if you have a preschool child who constantly asks to let him play on the tablet, and you are afraid of losing important files, then you can simply put the Tab M10 FHD Plus into this mode by hanging a password and gaining control over the child’s actions without any fear. What can be available in this mode? “Monster Coloring”, “Monster Camera” and “Monster Class”. It’s kind of educational content in the form of entertainment. Well, and most importantly, the child will not be able to exit this mode without your knowledge, since the PIN code is preset. Therefore the whole family can use the tablet.

SOUND & CAMERA

As mentioned above, on the sides of the tablet are speakers with Dolby Atmos sound, which you can customize for yourself using the standard Dolby Atmos program directly. In it you will find three presets for movies, music and dynamic mode, as well as a 10-band equalizer for fine tuning for yourself. The sound quality is expectedly mediocre, so it’s better to use headphones when consuming media content. If you are not a fan of wires, then you will be pleasantly surprised by the tablet’s support for the LDAC wireless HD codec. But support for aptX and aptX HD was not delivered. Radio lovers Tab M10 FHD Plus can delight the FM tuner, but it only works with wired headphones.

As for the cameras, in such devices, as usual, they are far from ideal. The Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus has two of them: a 5MP front (2592 x 1944) and an 8MP main (3264 x 2448). Photos are expected to be noisy and soapy in any light, like most tablets. Video capture on both cameras is available at a maximum resolution of 1080p at 30 frames without any stabilization.

BATTERY, IRON & COMMUNICATIONS

The Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus, alas, did not please us with its battery. Its capacity is 5000 mAh, and this, in our opinion, is not enough. The battery gains 50% charge in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Full recharging time is 2 hours and 38 minutes Charging is not very fast, but it will do for a budget tablet.

With an average intensity of use, the tablet can last about 2 days. With uninterrupted work on the Internet, the device lasts for ~ 8-10 hours, when watching video content – for 3-4 films, and for games, the charge goes away in 4-5 hours.

The core of the system is the 8-core MediaTek Helio P22T chipset, built using a 12-nm process technology (8 Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of 2 GHz), which works in conjunction with the PowerVR GE8320 graphics accelerator. We have on review a variant with 4 GB RAM (LPDDR4X) and 64 GB internal memory of the eMMC 5.1 standard, but there are also 4/128, 2/32 and 3/32 variants on the market. Finally, as we mentioned above, the Tab M10 FHD Plus has a storage expansion slot with support for microSD cards up to 256GB.

Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus (TB-X606X) is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 modules and a dual-band Wi-Fi module, as well as a navigation system with support for aGPS, GPS and GLONASS. Thanks to the LTE module, you can not only use the Internet, but also make calls from your tablet.

SYNTHETIC TESTS AND GAMES

In the baseline AnTuTu test, the tablet was identified as Lenovo TB-X606X. There he gains 119177 points and is ranked 96th in the ranking of Android devices:

  • CPU 45 834
  • GPU 13 431
  • MEM 32 413
  • UX 27,499

As far as 3D Mark is concerned, none of the tests on this tablet has been run.

By tradition, we have also installed several games (Asphalt 9, World of Tanks Blitz, Genshin Impact, Last Day on Earth) to test the device’s operation as a gaming gadget. Launching these games immediately confirmed the weak picture in the Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus with 3D graphics, which was indicated by the synthetic tests.

Heavy projects like Genshin Impact and Asphalt 9 on the Tab M10 FHD Plus can be played at the lowest graphics settings, but in some places they will still slow down. On the other hand, it was quite comfortable to play at minimum salaries in World of Tanks Blitz, which demonstrated a frame rate close to 60.

RESULTS

The Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus is a controversial tablet that boasts a decent large display, bare Android and a reasonably low price tag. On the other hand, performance, autonomy and sound are the weak points of this device, although for such a price, where about half of the cost is occupied by the display, this is not surprising. In general, for reading, watching movies and surfing the Internet on the road and in the country, it is still better than your smartphone because of the large screen.
