Sony introduced a wireless controller for its new PlayStation 5. The device is called DualSense, has tactile feedback, and also has adaptive triggers, a built-in microphone, a capacious battery and a USB Type-C port.
“We have reached an important milestone with the PlayStation 5 and are starting to distribute the final version of our new controller among developers who will implement its unique features in their games,” they write on Playstation Blog.
According to Sony, the new controller will expand the range of sensations from the gameplay on the PS5, and the DualSense functions in combination with Tempest 3D AudioTech will give players a new level of experience and the effect of immersion in the virtual world that is impossible until then.
The developers tried to preserve the favorite features of the players in the DualShock 4 controller, while adding new ones and also improving the design. After much discussion, they came to the conclusion that in games there is not enough attention paid to tactile sensations and sound effects.
“With the new PS5, we have a goal to work on innovative solutions and give game creators new opportunities that will help achieve a level of realistic sensations that is still unattainable.”
Tactile feedback was added to the new controller, supplementing the range of sensations, in particular, the feeling of adhesion and friction of the wheels when driving over rough terrain. In addition, adaptive triggers were built into the DualSense to provide players with a realistic sense of resistance and recoil, such as archery.
The new controller will no longer have a Share button. To replace it came Create. With it, players will be able to record the gameplay and share materials with the community. Sony promises to tell more about this feature closer to the official launch of the PlayStation 5.
DualSense is also equipped with an integrated microphone system so that players can quickly engage in a conversation without a headset. Together, the ability to connect a standard solution for long chats and a comfortable game has not gone away.
The release of DualSense is scheduled for the end of 2023 along with the PlayStation 5.
