Executive Director Sony Kenichiro Yoshida said at the general meeting of shareholders that the company plans to ship more than 22.6 million PlayStation 5 consoles from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2023.
If Sony manages to achieve this result, the company will break the record for console shipments set back in the 1998 financial year of the original PlayStation – 22.6 million units.
Peak shipments of other Sony consoles:
- PlayStation 2 – 22 million devices in fiscal 2002
- PlayStation 3 – 14.4 million devices in fiscal 2010
- PlayStation 4 – 20 million devices in fiscal 2016
In the current fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2023, Sony plans to ship over 14.8 million PlayStation 5 consoles. That’s more than the PlayStation 4 in its second year of availability.
