Sony patented biofeedback gamepad – review

A patent appeared on the network Sony on a gamepad that describes biofeedback technology to control the user’s heart rate and sweat secretion level. Depending on this, the system will customize the gameplay.

The idea is that the electrical conductivity of the skin and heart rate should be used as a reference to monitor the player’s reaction. For this, several sensors will be involved. Judging by the description, such a controller should work in tandem with a virtual reality helmet.

Biological feedback is used to choose between several options presented in a certain part of the content, without the need for additional actions on the part of the user ” – the patent says.

It can be assumed that in this way the console will be able to track the player’s psycho-emotional state. For example, reduce the strength of opponents if the gamer chooses an aggressive mode of passage. Or reduce the number of scary moments in horror.

Of course, the presence of a patent does not mean the existence of a finished product or even a prototype. It is possible that the idea was registered for the future, because it is too early to talk about the appearance of a commercial product.

PlayStation 5, like the Xbox Series X, is due out later this year.
