It was previously reported that buyers of the new console Sony can upgrade their PS4 versions of games to PS5 versions for freeif the latter will be presented on the market and their developers will support this opportunity.
In an interview with the Japanese portal Gamespark representative of the company Sony made an important clarification about this system: if copyright holders favor a free upgrade, then it can be done even with used copies of PS4 games on physical media.
If the PS5 version of the game you need with PS4 doesn’t exist, that is, a full-fledged “non-xstgen version”, you can simply use the old PS4 disks to play on the PlayStation 5 using the backward compatibility program.
But questions remain: how many people can upgrade to PS5 versions from one old used disk for free? What will a person get in this case – a full-fledged digital PS5 version of the game that does not require a disk anymore, or a “limited” one – that checks for a PS4 disk at each boot? Sony has not yet answered these questions.
The news resource also asked the company about the general principles of the backward compatibility system. Playstation 5, in particular, asking to answer the question about the possibility of launching games from the PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, but here we could not get a direct answer – the company is in no hurry to reveal all the cards.
Previously, companies such as Square enix and CD Projekt REDthanks to what to buy Marvel’s avengers and Cyberpunk 2077 gamers won’t have to do it twice – access to them can be automatically obtained both on the current and on the upcoming generation of consoles from Sony, paying only once.
Besides, as previously reported, all releases coming out on PlayStation 4 after July 13will need to have mandatory support Playstation 5.
