Sony during the PlayStation 3 fought “attrition” – review addiction

Evolution documentary to be released early September Playstation, for which many of the brand’s eminent faces were interviewed, such as Mark Cerny, Hideo Kojima, Jim Ryan, Phil Harrison, David Yaffe, Shinji Mikami, Kazunori Yamauchi and Fumito Ueda.

For Authors VGC I managed to see the picture before the premiere and tell about one of the fragments – when Sony, after the failure of the PS3, changed the structure of the organization and tried to build a unified vision.

Shahid Ahmad, who left Sony in 2015, recalls this. He worked at the company for about 10 years, leaving as head of strategic content.

The PS3 has been a lot to a lot of different people. It was a difficult period for us. It took a lot of effort to fix the technical and financial deficits that arose after the launch of this extraordinary device.

It was extremely difficult to squeeze all the juice out of the PS3, according to Ahmad, but over time, the developers learned how to work with the system. She eventually became successful, but then it was a struggle “to attrition.”

When Sony launched the PS3, it was much more arrogant, but by the end of 2013, the gaming direction had completed its transformation, becoming much more daring, determined and focused.

Sony went through fire and water during the PlayStation 3, so it was important for the company to launch the next console according to plan – with a clear vision and strategy. The PlayStation at the PS4 launch was totally different – honest and self-deprecating.

We had to do it right. If we didn’t succeed, it could be the end for the PlayStation.

The PS4, fortunately for Sony, became hyper-successful – in the first 24 hours in the United States sold over a million systems, and after 5.5 years, the total circulation exceeded 110 million devices. Already, overall PS4 sales are higher than PS3 and PS1.
